The port of Galveston (Texas, USA) contracted MCTIGUE in 2014 to lead the effort to study the potential for a third terminal. Port of Amsterdam International and Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) were asked to review their plans.
Project details
XBackground
MCTIGUE’s request entailed a thorough assessment of the proposed terminal layout, as well as the impact it would have on existing ground transportation. The proposed new terminal had to be integrated into the existing cruise infrastructure. The port of Galveston already had two cruise terminals, but wished to explore the option for a third due to an increase in traffic and a need to increase handling capacity. An expert evaluation was needed of the interplay between the three terminals, as well as the layout of the new terminal to make sure it was the most effective and efficient possible.
Services
Port of Amsterdam International and PTA submitted a comprehensive report containing several suggested modifications to the four proposed design options. The focus of the advice was to improve operations and take advantage of the synergy between the three terminals. The project was concluded in 2014.
Aspects that were reviewed included:
- Luggage handling
- Passenger flow
- Gangway position
- Need for a concourse
- Parking and ground transportation
- Terminal synergy
- Terminal layout
